It’s festival time once again in West Bengal. But the Durga Puja this time is being held under a looming cloud over the exit of the Nano from Singur.

And one Puja pandal is sure to see high footfalls this year is the Santosh Mitra Square in central Kolkata where the theme is the people’s one lakh car.

The Goddess looks on from this pandal, perhaps a little wistfully as it’s only a replica of the Nano. The real thing has left Bengal for good.

“The small car project should be in West Bengal and should be within one lakh rupees. So we have produced Tata’s Nano car,” said Pradeep Ghosh, Organiser, Santosh Mitra Square.

All that, of course, is now wishful thinking. But this pandal, which looks like a factory from the outside, is drawing huge crowds already.
